Why this matters more than it sounds
The trap most agencies won’t warn you about
Platform lock-in is one of the most common and least discussed traps in web design. A proprietary page builder that only its creator can maintain, a hosting arrangement you can’t access, or a content system with no export all do the same thing: they turn your website into something you rent rather than something you own.
That changes the relationship. Every renewal becomes leverage, every price increase becomes hard to refuse, and every conversation about leaving becomes a conversation about rebuilding from scratch. We built our approach specifically to avoid putting clients in that position.

Three things that belong to your organization
The WordPress website
We build on WordPress, an open platform used across a large share of the web. Your website isn’t trapped in a system only CyberOptik can operate. Another competent WordPress team can take it over. That’s exactly the point.
Your content and data
The pages, posts, images, structured content, and data in your website are yours. WordPress stores your content in a standard way that can be exported and moved. You’re not handing your words and information to a black box.
Your accounts and domain
Your domain name, and the accounts tied to your website and marketing, belong to you. We don’t register your domain in our name to hold it over you. Where we manage services on your behalf, you retain ownership.

Access and credentials
We provide the administrative access and credentials needed to operate the website. You’re not locked out of your own site.
Handoff of the website and hosting
If you move to another provider, we provide the website files, database, and the information a competent team needs to host it elsewhere. Because it’s WordPress, a standard migration is a known, well-documented process, not a special favor.
A professional exit
We’d rather end a relationship professionally than keep a client through technical or contractual barriers. Departing clients are handled the same way we handle clients we acquire from other agencies: with a clean, cooperative handoff.
Ownership vs. care
Two different things, not two names for the same trap
Owning your website and having us care for it are two different things. While we host and maintain your site under a care plan, we operate the hosting environment for you. That’s a service, not a cage. If you decide to leave, managed hosting is something you move away from, not something that holds your website hostage.
In other words: we host your website because we’re good at it and it makes support faster, not because you have no other option.

Honest limits
A few things portability doesn’t cover, explained straight
Portability is about your website, content, and data. A few things deserve a straight explanation:
- Third-party services connected to your site (certain premium plugin licenses, payment processors, marketing tools) carry their own terms. We help you understand what transfers and what you may need to license or reconnect on your own.
- A migration still takes competent work on the receiving end. We make the handoff clean; the new provider has to do their part.
- Some highly custom functionality may depend on specific configuration. We document what matters so it can be understood and maintained by others.
None of these are lock-in. They’re the ordinary realities of moving any real website, explained honestly rather than hidden.
