Why teams leave Blogger
Blogger is fine for a personal hobby blog. It’s a poor fit once you’re a serious content creator or a small business and you want your site to actually work for you.
Limited templates, limited design.
Blogger’s template options are thin, and customizing beyond them means digging into old-style HTML/CSS editing that most people don’t want to touch.
Monetization is on Google’s terms.
Blogger comes with its own ad restrictions baked in. If you want to run your own ad partnerships, sponsorships, or affiliate setup the way you actually want to, the platform gets in your way.
Subdomain lock-in until you fix it yourself.
Blogger sites default to a blogspot.com subdomain, and moving to a custom domain is possible but manual. A lot of older Blogger sites are still stuck looking unprofessional by default because of it.
No real plugin ecosystem.
Want a proper SEO tool, an email list you actually own, a membership area, or a course? Blogger just doesn’t have the plugin options WordPress does. You end up bolting on third-party tools that never feel like they belong.
Google could sunset it, and has done similar before.
Blogger hasn’t seen meaningful investment in years. Building an audience on a free Google product that isn’t a current priority is a real risk for anyone treating their blog like a business.

Process
How we handle Blogger-specific gotchas
Blogger’s URL structure is the main one. Blogger tends to generate URLs based on post dates, which creates long, not-particularly-clean permalinks that don’t do you any favors for SEO or readability. We rebuild your permalink structure in WordPress and set up a full 301 redirect map from the old date-based URLs to the new ones, so you’re not stuck carrying Blogger’s URL habits forward forever.
The other one is content formatting. Blogger’s editor has changed over the years, and posts written at different points often carry inconsistent HTML markup underneath the visible text. We clean that up during migration instead of importing the mess as-is. It’s more hands-on than a straight file import, but it’s a solved problem for us at this point.
